'China is urbanising on a scale 100 times greater than that of Britain during the Industrial Revolution, at more than 10 times the speed.'

In a speech delivered in China on 5th November 2013, the then First Secretary at the British Embassy in Beijing Matt Downing pointed out that 'In 2011, China's urban population outnumbered its rural population for first time. The UK hits this milestone in 1851. US in 1920. China is urbanising on a scale 100 times greater than that of Britain during the Industrial Revolution, at more than 10 times the speed. There will be around one billion urban residents by 2030, which implies 15-20 million new arrivals in China's cities every year for next 15-20 years.' Read more. . . .
